| ok so it has been a really long time... I mostly have been Photo blogging on flickr.com/matthew2000tx I got a new laptop... actually a net book it is ultra portable so this might encourage me to blog more frequently.
Today's blog: Yesterday, Tina and I went downtown (San Antonio) to photograph the San Antonio Tea Party. I must say I'm not a political person... I have my views and I keep them to myself. As my readings know I'm a 2nd grade teacher and photographer (Tina and I officially started our Photography business this year) more on that later..
Before I start I want to point out that I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the protest. I choose to remain neutral and photograph.
While down there I made these observations...
1. The make up of the crowd didn't fit the city. I mean San Antonio is a major Hispanic community, and the majority of the crowd seemed to be upper to middle class white people. I don't know if this was because of out of towners or just the make up of the moslty rebulican crowd.
2. There was one man who was an Obamma supporter who was there not to protest really but to just share in the expeience and support the oppisition in their right to have free speech. (that is what he said). While photographing him a guy walked up and started calling Obamma a fagit. I thought to myself what an uneducated attack. I really had to try to be quiet.. I wanted to tell that guy who was just name calling this "Come on really that is your best? We were in a crowd of 15,000 people who don't support Obamma and all you have to say if he is a fag?, come on man?"
3. I was sad that it clearly is apparent that it is difficult to find good journalist these days... i mean someone who represents both sides equally. You may or may not know that Glen Beck (Fox News) was one of the lead speakers at the Tea Party here in San Antonio. Years ago, having a news person speak at such an event would have been the death of that person's career. Instead, as Glen walked off I heard people yelling "We Love you Glen." "Viva Fox News" etc. You would have thought it was Jesus that walked by at the way people were throwing themselves at him. I know he is an editorialist.. but still Fox News is News and should be news and nothing else and it is important to point out this goes for CNN as well! Republicans watch Fox... Democrats watch CNN..for a reason. I continually get sick of both and their slants!
4. Being there is was great being able to photograph a protest and seeing freedom of speech in action, it made me proud to be American... regardless of what side I was on in the protest. (I'm not one way of the other... call me a neutralist)

| The challenge for the coming next two weeks. Post photos on July 30th.
Household Abstracts -Create an abstract photograph using only the objects you can find around your home.
I know some times I'm in the mood to photograph but it is all rainy
outside this one comes out of some past sheer boredom moments that I've
had.
It will be great to see what we can come up with. |
